The "Hannibal" plot refers to the story of Dr. Hannibal Lecter, a brilliant cannibalistic psychiatrist who becomes the antagonist in the 1991 film The Silence of the Lambs and its sequels, as well as a 2013 television series. In the 2001 film Hannibal, he is at large in Europe while a vengeful Mason Verger, a former victim, uses the disgraced FBI agent Clarice Starling to lure him out. In the 2013 TV series, the plot follows the early relationship between Lecter and the FBI profiler Will Graham, who is being manipulated by Lecter to use his ability to empathize with serial killers.
